High Temperature Properties

High-temperature greases consist of thermally stable, preferably synthetic base oils incorporating organic or inorganic thickeners. The maximum upper operating temperature limit for LUBTEX high-temperature lubricating greases today is approximately 600 °C. 
 
There are many criteria to consider when selecting a high-temperature grease for hot, grease-lubricated equipment. The selection must include consideration of oil type and viscosity, oil viscosity index, thickener type, stability of the composition formed by the oil and the thickener), additive composition and properties, ambient temperature, operating temperature, atmospheric contamination, loading, speed, relubrication intervals, etc. 
 
 
Base Oil Type
Synthetic oil is the first selection for high temperature operating enviroment. Synthetic oil offering a stable thermal stability which low evaporation rate and less residue formation. Ester oil, PFPE and slicone oil are the major selection for high temperature selection. On top of that, we have to consider the material compability, lubricity, biodegradble, life time lubrication or etc.

Thickener Type
The materials selected as the grease thickeners may be organic, such as polyurea, PTFE; inorganic, such as clay or fumed silica; or a soap/complex soap, such as lithium, aluminum or calcium sulfonate complex. The thickener selection are depending upon the operating conditions the grease will experience and the materials with which they will be in contact. Some thickeners need to be non-melting and withstand temperature significantly hotter than what traditional soap greases can handle. Others need to be inert due to material compatibility, or they may be in aggressive environments where they are exposed to corrosive or acidic environments.

sealed for life bearings, rolling element bearings, electric motors, fan bearings and other wide range of industrial applications. 
Calcium Sulfonate - good anti-wear
- extreme pressure and corrosion resistance
- good thermal stability
Anti-friction bearings, low and high speed general bearings, oven conveyors, electric motor bearings, steel mill roller bearings, crusher bearings, die pins, construction and agricultural equipment.
Clay  - outstanding heat resistance usable up to 160 °C
- suitable also for use at low temperatures good oxidative stability

- can be used in Food Grade Lubricants
superior protection to machine moving elements up to 180º C, and even higher temperatures for short periods, with appropriate re-lubrication intervals.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)  - good thermal stability up to 260 °C, 
- water resistance
- shear stability
- compatible with plastics and  elastomers 
rolling and plain bearings subject to high temperatures.
Carbon Blacks  - good thermal stability
- performs in high-temperature
treadmills, laser printers, copiers, and computer equipment


NLGI Grade
The NLGI consistency number (sometimes called "NLGI grade") expresses a measure of the relative hardness of a grease used for lubrication, as specified by the standard classification of lubricating grease established by the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI).
